Senior Sergeant Nita Martino is Ringer’s 2IC. She has been promoted to Homicide from the Sexual Victims Unit where the worst side of human nature was constantly on display. As Marino says herself, ‘she has seen it all – though nothing at all like this.’ Marino gets on well with Jane. It’s Ringer she has problems with: a consummate detective, but such a boy. Yet he trusts her and backs her all the way and leaves her to run the big operations. Even Marino has to concede he values her military background and her coolness under pressure. Maybe it’s Nita who needs to be less judgemental.
