What’s the story about?
The Lost Book of the White continues the epic (and not always smooth-sailing) love story of Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood.
Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood are settling into domestic life with their son Max when the warlocks Ragnor Fell and Shinyun Jung break into their loft and steal a powerful spell book. Realizing that Ragnor and Shinyun are being controlled by a more sinister force, Magnus and Alec set out to stop them and recover the book before they can cause any more harm.
But nothing is as it seems. Ragnor and Shinyun are working at the behest of a Greater Demon. Their goal is to open a Portal from the demon realms to Earth, to flood the world with dangerous demons. When a violent encounter causes Magnus’s magic to grow increasingly unstable, Alec and Magnus must strike at the heart of the demon’s power, but what they find there is far stranger and more nefarious than they ever could have expected…
Is the book from the perspective of Alec or Magnus?
Both! You get to see the world through the eyes of the enigmatic warlock AND the pragmatic Shadowhunter.
Where is it set?
While The Red Scrolls of Magic took place on a (would-have-been) romantic getaway against a stunning European backdrop, the majority of The Lost Book of the White takes place in the beating heart of Shanghai. And possibly… Hell?
Will we get to see any familiar characters?
While Magnus and Alec may have defeated evil in a foreign country entirely on their own (and entirely in secret) in The Red Scrolls of Magic, but this time the OG Shadowhunter gang is coming along for the ride. Jace, Clary, Simon and Isabelle are all joining Magnus and Alec in Shanghai, to hunt down the evil that’s threatening to destroy the city.
But that’s not all! We can’t give too much away, but there might be a couple more surprise appearances, including a certain fan favourite who may or may not have grown up in the Shanghai Institute.

And as for Isabelle… well, Izzy’s busy being Izzy, and looking inimitably glamorous while she does.
