JOHANNES EGBERTS

The Cold Therapy Plan: 28 days to reduce stress, enhance sleep and promote recovery.

Publishing 1 January 2025

Simon & Schuster Australia is thrilled to announce that they have signed a two-book deal with Australia’s breathwork instructor, Johannes Egberts, with the first, The Cold Therapy Plan, to be published on 1 January 2025.

Johannes is a published researcher, keynote speaker and founder of Breathless, a leading adventure travel and education organisation.

In his book Johannes unveils the transformative potential of cold-water immersion. Cold is the new hot. Today, endless celebrities, athletes and biohackers all extol the benefits of cold therapy, while in January 2024, the hashtag #coldplunge had more than more than 500 million views on TikTok. Interest only continues to increase with ice baths now on sale in Kmart and breathwork, dubbed the next yoga, is the next big thing to go mainstream in Australian households.

In the book, readers will discover the science behind ice baths and cold-water therapy and uncover the purported benefits – from reducing inflammation, losing weight, boosting your immune system, coping with chronic pain, to fostering mental resilience and enhancing recovery. Citing more than 50 studies, this practical guide from Australia’s number one expert presents a 28-day plan that people can follow at home.

Crucially, unlike other titles on the subject, this book ventures out of the science lab to share the first-hand stories of people who credit their practice of cold therapy with transforming their lives.

‘I wrote The Cold Therapy Plan to share a journey that has profoundly transformed my life and the lives of many others. This book isn’t just about enduring cold; it’s about embracing it as a tool for resilience, healing and personal growth. The cold saved my life, changed my life, and through that process, became my life. Cold therapy has been a catalyst for me in overcoming obstacles, finding clarity, and tapping into a deeper sense of well-being.’

Johannes Egberts

‘Johannes is Australia’s leading expert in cold water therapy and offers invaluable insights into the biggest health trend of 2025. We are thrilled to share his trusted advice with readers seeking to embrace this transformative practice.’

Emma Nolan, Non-Fiction Publisher, Simon & Schuster Australia

‘These practices are the way forward, and this is the man to learn them from. It’s not that tough, you just gotta do it. Stay hard.’

About the Author

A chance meeting with Wim Hof aka ‘The Iceman’ changed Johannes’ life. After a turbulent childhood and suffering mental health issues in his teens, Johannes arrived in Australia when he was 18, with just the clothes he was wearing. After founding Breathless Expeditions in 2019, Johannes now teaches the practice of holotropic breathwork, along with ice bath experiences, to thousands of Aussies, including businesses, the Australian Defence Force, and professional athletes. The organisation has trained more than 300 breathwork coaches who are now operating across Australia.
