Justyn Backhouse

Justyn Backhouse is a former NSW Police Officer who dedicated 25 years to law enforcement, serving on both highway patrol and the elite POLAir unit, where he took on high-stakes missions, from high-speed chases to daring rescues. His career, marked by courage and resilience, also exposed him to the psychological toll of trauma that first responders often bear in silence. Diagnosed with PTSD in 2021, Justyn turned to writing as part of his healing journey, penning Hidden Scars, a candid memoir that reveals the dark realities of policing and the profound impacts on mental health.
Beyond his career in law enforcement, Justyn is an advocate for mental health awareness, especially within first responder communities. His writing aims to break down stigma, foster understanding, and offer hope to those facing similar struggles. Today, Justyn continues to use his experiences to champion resilience, healing, and support for those impacted by trauma.
